About Us
Michelle Wolf has been an ecological gardener and horticulture-based herbalist for over 25 years. She was a 16-year vendor at the Wolfville Farmers' Market from 1997-2013. She was involved as a co-chair and coordinator of the organic certification organizations in the Maritimes in the 1990's and early 2000's, and is a former president of Canada's national seed saving non-profit, Seeds of Diversity Canada. Michelle ran Nova Scotia's earliest 100+ member CSA in the 1990's, hosted many interns over two decades, and helped pave the way for the next generation of women farmers and gardeners to grow their own successful farm businesses. She also spent the last 10 years helping develop Canada's national farmers' market sector through her training and consulting work with several provincial farmers' market organizations. Michelle is no longer operating a commercial sized farm but in the raised bed gardens, fields, and woods of her family's seven acre homestead, Michelle continues to grow perennial plants, vegetables, culinary and medicinal herbs, berries, and ornamental plants. She is also an avid wild-crafter, gathering pussy willows, herbs, flowers, and plants throughout the province. Michelle and her husband host Airbnb guests at their property and she offers herbal workshops as well. Plants and nature have been Michelle's life-long passion, and producing her herbal and culinary products for WFM2GO is one of her favourite creative endeavours to date. Thank you very much for your interest.
Practices
Michelle gardens according to the ecological principles of nature. Lots of compost and mulch, leaf cover in the winter, minimal tillage, no use of chemicals or commercial fertilizers, crop rotations, and additions of composted manure and compost teas to help plants thrive. She uses glass (instead of plastic) whenever possible in her product packaging and has always lived her life, and run her farm business, with a sustainability mindset and the heart of a person who values nature and the wild outdoors.
